 The English pinter Edward Burne-Jones (1883 -1898) paid homeage in his pictures to a Golden Age. For his "Flower Book" published posthumously, he painted 38 gouaches inspired by traditional names of flower- no book of flowers in the conventional sense, but a diary, richly laden with symbols, of the artist's secret yearnings.
